About this Camellia cultivar
Harold L. Paige is a vigorous reticulata hybrid camellia originated by Jack Osegueda in Oakland, California, and registered in 1972 after first blooming in 1969. It is a cross of Camellia japonica 'Adolph Audusson' and Camellia reticulata 'Crimson Robe'. The cultivar produces very large, bright red blooms with prominent gold anthers and reddish filaments. Its flowers are described as rose-form double to peony form, giving the blooms a full, richly layered appearance. The plant has a spreading growth habit and dark green foliage, making it a striking landscape camellia as well as a show flower.
