About this Camellia cultivar
Camellia japonica 'Dahlonega' is a distinctive Japanese camellia cultivar developed in 1986 by Dr. Walter Homeyer of Macon, Georgia. It is especially notable as one of the few yellow-flowering camellia selections. Its double blooms open cream-white and gradually fade to a soft yellow, reaching up to about 4 inches across. The cultivar blooms in winter, typical of Camellia japonica, and forms an evergreen shrub about 8-10 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide. The name 'Dahlonega' means 'gold' in Cherokee, reflecting its unusual flower coloration.
